国際宇宙ステーション（ＩＳＳ）での約４カ月の長期滞在を終えて、星出彰彦さんが、地球に帰還した。 滞在中に星出さんが行った３回の船外活動は計２１時間２３分で、日本人飛行士で最長となった。物資補給機のドッキングや分離などの重要任務もやり遂げ、日本実験棟「きぼう」から小型衛星を放出する実験にも成功した。 ２００９年の若田光一さんから始まった日本人飛行士のＩＳＳ長期滞在は星出さんが４人目で、宇宙滞在日数や船外活動時間は米国、ロシアに次ぎ世界３位となった。来年末からは若田さんが２度目の長期滞在でＩＳＳの船長をつとめ、１５年には油井亀美也さんが長期滞在に向かう。 しかし、ＩＳＳで積み上げた有人宇宙活動の経験と実績を、どんな形で継承するのかという長期構想が見えてこない。日本独自の有人宇宙船開発や惑星探査のあり方など、宇宙開発の将来像にかかわる本格的な議論が棚上げされてきたからだ。 宇宙開発の司令塔として７月に発足した内閣府の宇宙政策委員会は、来年度から５年間の「宇宙基本計画」の素案を公表した。 厳しい財政状況を踏まえ、「今後の宇宙政策は総花的に行うのではなく、重点分野を絞って最大限の成果を目指す」とした。 具体的には、日本版ＧＰＳ（衛星利用測位システム）の構築に向けた準天頂衛星の打ち上げなど宇宙開発の「実用性」を重視し、ＩＳＳ計画など有人宇宙開発については「不断の経費削減に努める」となっている。< 前のページ12次のページ >
